IRDA/Order/Surveyor & Loss Assessors/30/3/2002
Without prejudice to any order or judgement
issued or made by any of the Honorable Court in India and with a view
to carry out the purposes of : the Insurance Act 1938, Insurance Regulatory
and Development Authority Act 1999, Rules and Regulations made there under
and to perform the duties and functions of the Authority it has been decided
under the powers vested with the Authority to issue the following order to
give effect to the categorization accorded to each individual surveyor and
directors’ / partners’ of the Surveyor and Loss Assessors
Companies / Firms being the qualified surveyors and loss assessors in terms
of the Insurance Act 1938 and regulations made thereunder
.
This order shall be in continuation of the earlier intimations placed
on the website www.irdaindia.org
on the subject of categorization of existing Surveyors and Loss Assessors
and would come into effect on
1st April, 2002
. This would also give effect
to the financial limits of categorized surveyors and loss assessors
placed on the website wide intimation dated
19th September, 2001
. This order has been issued
on examination and consideration of the representations received by
the Authority from the surveyors and loss assessors and it shows the
up to date status of the categorization. (Click

All the insurers carrying on general insurance business in
India
and the surveyors and loss assessors carrying on the profession of
surveyor and loss assessors are advised to abide by this order as noncompliance
thereof would be treated as violation of provisions of the Insurance Act
1938 and the regulations made thereunder.
Insurers are advised not to insist for individual letters
to be issued to the surveyors and loss assessors showing their categorization
as it is administratively inconvenient.
Moreover the Identity Card to the surveyors would
be issued in due course giving the details of categorization, name, address,
licence number etc. of the particular
surveyor and loss assessor and also of the director / partner of the particular
firm or company. Insurers
are also advised to disseminate this information immediately to each of
their operating office at their end to avoid any inconvenience.
For the purpose of compliance, good order and professional
use, it is advised that insurers need not stop allocation of work just because
categorization is pending or is provisional for reasons specified in the
five points (

The order is containing the following requirements and information which
may be attended to at the earliest but not later than the date specified
therein.

whose response to our letter seeking information / clarification

Annex-A
|
Following surveyors are provisionally categorized for 1 year within
which they are advised to undergo training and pass an examination on
the prescribed syllabus intimated on our website.

Annex-B
|
Furnished below are the licence numbers of some of those
surveyors whose fresh applications are received in last two
weeks of March, 2002. Since
31st March, 2002
is the second and last opportunity for receipt of the applications
for categorization, all applications which are received till then and
are pending would be processed and the final status of the categorization
placed on the website as part of this order.
