Re : Special dispensation to Insurers under Section 64UM (2) of the Insurance Act, 1938

In exercise of the powers under Section 64UM (2) of the Insurance Act, 1938, the Authority hereby raises the limit of losses required to be surveyed by a licensed surveyor and loss assessor for settlement of claims, from Rs. 20,000/- to Rs.50,000/- for the recent floods in Maharashtra and Gujarat alone for a period of two months from the date of this order, as a special case. The insurers may utilise the services of in-house surveyors for assessing losses upto Rs. 50,000. This special dispensation is given to insurers to ensure expeditious disposal of claims and for mitigating hardships to policyholders.
